1. Club Overview

  • Stadium: Old Trafford
  • Location: Manchester, England
  • Capacity: 74,310
  • Official Site: manutd.com

The club has fallen from the heights of the Sir Alex Ferguson years, and the wilderness years look like continuing for some time. Old Trafford has been neglected but it remains one of the largest soccer stadiums in England (and indeed Europe). It’s been proposed to replace it with a brand new stadium so how long it will remain is anyone’s guess. Tickets for games however remain popular, and there’s a superb soccer themed hotel called Hotel Football (which is now under the Marriott brand) very near to Old Trafford, but what makes this an interesting choice is that it’s also owned by former Manchester United players Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.

2. How to Buy Tickets

To purchase tickets you need to be a member. When the fixtures are released on Wednesday 18th June it becomes a free for all to purchase match tickets. Note that fixtures exact date might be moved for television to a different day on that same weekend. Expect any big game to be moved for television. For now they will all be listed as being on Saturday at 3pm UK time.

Memberships

They have 4 memberships: Premium, Official Membership, Under 16, and Forwarding.

Forwarding memberships only allows you to receive tickets that have been forwarded to you. So if you buy one online (wouldn’t recommend this due to scams but it also has been known to work too), the tickets would need to be forwarded onto you. This would be the membership you would need.

Under 16 is the same as the Official Membership but is only available to fans under 16 years old.

A premium membership and official membership are essentially the same. Premium gets you a larger discount at the museum (50% vs 30%), a larger discount on hospitality tickets (25% vs 15%). Premium members also get a digital match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game). Most likely it isn't worth the extra cost to buy premium memberships. All members apart from Forwarding gets you access to home match tickets. All memberships can receive forwarded tickets.

Membership Price
Premium £70
Official £37.50
Under 16 £20
Forwarding £25

IF YOU WANT TO BUY TICKETS YOU NEED TO BE MEMBERS BEFORE 8AM (UK TIME) MONDAY 16TH JUNE.

Once you have got your membership, you then need to enter a ballot to actually get tickets.

3. Ticket Prices

Like most soccer clubs ticket prices depend on the match category (who they are playing), the seat location (where in the stadium you will sit) and the ticket type (Adult, Child, etc).

Manchester United have 4 categories: A, B, C and D.

  • Category A: Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspurs (Spurs), Newcastle United
  • Category B: Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley, Leeds United
  • Category C: Sunderland AFC, Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves)
  • Category D: Cup fixtures only (eg. FA Cup and League Cup games).

These are the price ranges for each category of game:

  • Cat A: £59 - £97 (6 x PL fixtures)
  • Cat B: £57 - £86 (11 x PL fixtures)
  • Cat C: £37 - £60 (2 x PL fixtures)
  • Cat D: £32 - £52 (cup fixtures only)

You can email: tickets@manutd.co.uk for more information.

4. Hospitality

There are several match day hospitality packages to choose from, please be aware that there is a casual dress code meaning no away team colors, or tracksuits, no offensive clothing. Children and concessions pay the same price as adults for all hospitality packages. You can pay extra for flexibility, meaning you can cancel up until noon (12pm) on the working day before the match. Make sure to select the flexi-ticket when making your hospitality package. Email: matchday.hospitality@manutd.co.uk.

Warwick Suite

This package gets you a padded seat in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, an a la carte buffet meal, inclusive alcoholic drinks, half time refreshments, and question and answer session from a former Manchester United men’s player. As a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game).

The International

You get a padded seat in tier 1 of block 122 in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand. You get access 3 hours before the game starts, there are casual grab and go food options, free beer/wine/soda/coffee/tea and as a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game).

No 7 Suite

This package gets you a padded seat in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, a buffet meal, free drinks (beer/wine/soda/coffee/tea and champagne), half time refreshments and after the game you get a pie (think chicken and leek savoury rather than apple pie!). This package also means you get a question and answer session from a former Manchester United men’s player.

Post-Match Museum Experience

With this package you do still get to go to the match with a padded seat in tier 2, block N3408 of the Sir Alex Ferguson stand. You get free drinks (beer/wine/soda/coffee/tea), there are casual grab and go food options and as a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game). You also, not surprisingly, get access to the museum after the match too. This experience is unusual in that it mostly happens after the match rather than before the match like most hospitality options. So I have no clue whether this option exists for evening games! I’ll let you know if I find out the answers, or if someone does know, please do get in touch.

Red Cafe

This package comes with a padded seat in tier 2 block N3408 of the Sir Alex Ferguson stand. You get a 3 course meal, free beer/wine/soda, tea/coffee), you get a question and answer session from a former Manchester United men’s player, post match snacks, and as a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game) too.

Trinity Club Pre Match

This is an informal package for three hours before the match where you get a buffet, free beer/wine/soda, you get a question and answer session from a former Manchester United men’s player, and of course a seat which is located in tier 2 of the East Stand. As a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game) too. You don't get anything after the game because…

Trinity Club Post Match

This package occurs for 2 hours after the game and you get a buffet, free beer/wine/soda, you get a question and answer session from a former Manchester United men’s player, and of course a seat which is located in tier 2 of the East Stand. As a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game) too.

Victoria Warehouse

This package does not occur at the stadium. You get a 3 hour pre-match and 1 hour post match experience with casual dining (meaning some street food style stalls for you to order what you want), free bottled beer, house wine, prosecco, liquor, soda, and tea/coffee. As per the other hospitality packages as a nice souvenir from the match you also get a match day programme (a small magazine for that day's game) too.

Hotel and Match Ticket Combination

You can also use a third party but fully endorsed by Manchester United hotel and match vacations. You can find more information here: https://www.sportsbreaks.com/Football/Premier-League/Manchester-United

5. Where to Sit

Old Trafford is divided into several stands:

  • Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (North): Offers panoramic views and houses the executive boxes. We wouldn't recommend the top tier as the roof can make it feel a bit cut off from the rest of the stadium. Although it does mean you shouldn’t get wet if it rains.
  • Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (South): The main stand with the players' tunnel and dugouts. The Directors box is located here too.
  • East Stand: Home to passionate fans and the family section.
  • Stretford End (West): Known for its vibrant atmosphere and vocal supporters. This has the best atmosphere. Expect to stand for most of the match. The lower tiers are more atmospheric than the upper tiers. Tier 2 has some family blocks next to the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand.

The Family Zone is located in tier 2 of the Stretford End and in the corner of the Stretford and the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand. Check the FAM labelled blocks.

Away fans are typically seated in the southeast corner, encompassing sections E230 to E233.

If it’s raining heavily, prepare to get wet in the front rows. Also Old Trafford has become notorious for having a leaky roof which means that you can get wet even in the most unlikely of locations.

You can see the view from seats inside Old Trafford here: https://map.3ddigitalvenue.com/manutd

6. Getting There

Address: Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Manchester M16 0RA, UK

Train

Manchester Piccadilly is the main railway station for Manchester. There is left luggage available at this station too. Old Trafford has its own train station called “Manchester United Train Station” (original, right? https://maps.app.goo.gl/rgULnK4q6tsY7kop8 ). This station is only open on match days, so if you’re heading to do a tour of the stadium, don’t rely on this station being open as it won’t be. You will need to connect from Manchester Piccadilly train station. https://www.thetrainline.com/via/trips/old-trafford

Tram

There are four tram stops near Old Trafford. All the tram stops are in zone 2. Wharfside is the closest. You can catch the orange line towards Media City, and stop at Pomona without the need to change lines. You can do the same for the light blue line towards Eccles. To get to Wharfside you can change lines at Pomona, Cornbrook, or Deansgate. You need the red line towards The Trafford Center (a large shopping mall). Trafford Bar is served by the gold, pink, blue, green and purple line. The purple line towards Altrincham will take you from the Piccadilly railway station without the need to change trams.

  • Wharfside is the closest tram stop to Old Trafford. It’s a 10 minute walk to the stadium.
  • Trafford Bar is another tram stop to Old Trafford. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the stadium.
  • The other nearest tram stop is at Salford Quays. It’s also a 20 minute walk to the stadium.
  • You could also alight at the Pomona tram stop too. It’s also a 20 minute walk to Old Trafford.

Here is a link to map of the tram network: https://assets.ctfassets.net/nv7y93idf4jq/Metrolink_map_for_web_May_2025.pdf. You can pay using contactless card payments including Apple Pay and Google Pay. It should cost about £2.80 for an adult single ticket. If you're using it elsewhere (say to visit the Etihad) it might be worth getting a one day off peak ticket. You can find the latest prices here: https://assets.ctfassets.net/nv7y93idf4jq/2kQt9PbWpvjb4zxA2DJMbq/02be3d571aa672fb97833ea3433954e7/Metrolink_Fares_Change_2020_A4_WEB.pdf

Bus

There are buses but it's best to use the tram or rail mode of transport instead. You can plan your journey here if you really want to: https://tfgm.com/plan-a-journey

Taxi

A taxi from the airport to Old Trafford will take approximately 30 minutes (I’d allow longer due to traffic depending on the time and day). It will cost about £35. A taxi from Manchester Piccadilly train station to Old Trafford will take about 15 minutes and cost approximately £10. Uber works in Manchester.

Car

On match days the roads (including interstates and highways) around Old Trafford get really busy. On match days use the following zip code (post code): M16 0RA to get to Old Trafford. On non match days you can use the following zip code (post code): M17 1FP. You should use parking lot E2 only.

On match days you can only gain entry to parking lots E1 and E2 via Wharfside Way. You cannot gain entry via Chester Road. Parking lots will be busy. To book the official Manchester United car parks: https://tickets.manutd.com/en-GB/categories/car-parking

Note that motorcycles also need to pay a standard parking fee too. Motorcycle parking is available in parking lots N3 and N4 and costs £10. On non match days motorcycles can park for free in the E2 parking lot.

Manchester government also has an official car park located at the zip code (postcode) M17 1JE for the centre of the Trafford village. It costs £7 and it's on street parking (parking on the side of streets in the white marked bays only. And only within the zone (see the images). Use the RingGo app or telephone 0161 634 0340. You need to use the location code of: 3000.

Like most stadiums, on match days lots of unofficial parking lots suddenly appear. They cost about £5 - £20. Normally paid in cash only. They are legit places to park. You can even pre-book here: https://www.justpark.com/uk/parking/trafford/old-trafford-stadium/ or: https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/old_trafford/

You can also park at the Altrincham tram station and catch the tram in. Or park at the media city: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JGndAg1Wd5LFkt71A and then walk in.

Cycling

There is free bicycle parking in the following parking lots N2 (Sir Alex Ferguson Stand), E2 (East Stand), and W2 (West Stand). You will need to bring your own lock. Any bicycles left around Old Trafford will be removed.

Airport

Manchester International Airport (MAN) is located to the south of Manchester. It takes about 20 minutes by train to get from the airport into Manchester Piccadilly which is Manchester’s main railway station.

You can also catch a tram on the blue line from the airport which goes directly to Trafford Bar tram stop. Catch the blue line towards Victoria.

There are also direct buses from downtown Manchester using the Bee network of buses. You will need buses 43, 103, 130, 199, 248, 288, 313, and 368. They work 24 hours a day. All buses leave from The Station at the airport (it’s also where trains leave from). For more bus information: https://tfgm.com/travel-updates/live-departures/bus/manchester-airport-the-station-bus

You can also get a taxi although it will be expensive. Each terminal has its own taxi rank. Follow the signs. You can also pre-book private hire taxis (StreetCars) to collect you. Uber also works in Manchester. A taxi from the airport to Old Trafford will take approximately 30 minutes (I’d allow longer due to traffic depending on the time and day). It will cost about £35.

7. Food, Drink & Pubs

There are numerous options for food and drink around Old Trafford. These are some of the best pubs nearby:

  • The Bishop Blaize: This is Wetherspoons chain pub so expect cheap prices. A popular pub among home fans, located on Chester Road. 9. Tours & Museum

There are few options available to you. You have the basic tour and museum package, the Legends Tour, A Short on Time (Limited Time) Tour, and a Sensory Tour too.

For all tours they start from the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand reception. You should arrive at least 20 minutes before the tour starts. Any bags that you bring with you will need to be searched, this can take a while on match days, so allow plenty of time. There are free lockers you can use for small bags (no suitcases etc) in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand reception area. Whilst tours are conducted in English, there are videos available in other languages too.

You can also enter the museum before your tour so don’t worry about arriving early (if your tour starts after 3pm, you must visit the museum first as the museum will be closed by the time your tour finishes!).

Once you arrive at the Sir Alex Ferguson reception , you will need to collect a lanyard and then take the elevators or escalators to level 3 where the museum is. The meeting point for the tours is on level 1. You should ensure you get to this point at least 5 minutes before the tour is actually due to start. If you arrive late, you won’t be able to join your tour.

The museum is spread over three levels. Level 3 contains the trophies, the Munich room, and the beginning of Manchester United. Level 2 contains past shirt jerseys, managers room, overseas United, and Legends Corridor.

On Level 1 you’ll find the history of Old Trafford, some more trophies and where you’ll meet your guide.

The tours themselves are guided and last approximately 70 minutes. You’ll visit the players locker room, players tunnel, the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, you’ll go pitchside to visit the dugouts (where the managers sit) and also the media room.

If you are a member (joined the Red membership) you can get a 50% discount on tour prices. The Tours are open from 9.30am to 4pm Sunday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturdays the opening times are from 9.30am to 5pm. Note that on their website it says that the museum and tour is not available on match days. You’ll need to select a time and date when booking the tours.

Currently summer (June/July) 2025 the website says that Old Trafford is undergoing some redevelopments and thus the tour routes are changed. You’ll visit the Heritage Lounge, the Directors Suite but you won’t be able to visit the dugouts, the players tunnel, nor the players locker room. The route will be back to normal in August.

The difference between the tours is that on the Legends Tour you’ll also get a 3 course meal. The Limited time tour cuts the stadium tour, so you’ll only visit inside the stadium. The private tour visits the same places as the main basic tour but you’ll be in a private group tour.

The Sensory Tour is the same tour but in much smaller groups. The lights and noise will be kept to a minimum on this tour.

Tour Adult Concessions
Basic £28 £15
Limited Time £23 £15
Legends Website doesn’t give prices! We will update when season starts
Private Tour Prices On request

10. Accessibility

You will need to register with Manchester United that you are disabled. To do this you will need to provide official evidence such as a Personal Independence Payment letter from the UK government (a Blue Badge won’t be enough!). This won’t be much use to you international fans, but if you have something similar from your government to prove that you are disabled, you should provide this instead. Contact +44 (0)161 868 8001 or Email: accessibility@manutd.co.uk for further information regarding this.

To get match day tickets you will also need to be an official member (see memberships). You can use the website to buy accessible tickets. For those high in demand tickets (Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea), you will need to enter a ballot to get a ticket. If you are successful in purchasing a ticket and you are eligible, you will get a carer/Personal Assistant ticket too. This ticket will be free unlike if you buy a match day hospitality ticket.

There are several places inside Old Trafford that have accessible seating:

  • Tier 1 of the South East corner
  • Tier 1 of the South West corner
  • Tier 1 of the East Stand
  • In the Sir Bobby Chartlon Stand
  • Tier 2 of the North East corner
  • Tier 2 of the North West corner
  • Tier 2 of the Stretford End

There are elevators in all areas of the stadium. Although for the Sir Alex Ferguson stand you should email: accessibility@manutd.co.uk at least 24 hours before the game. They will then ensure that you have an elevator pass for you. They will tell you how to collect this in the email. If your ticket is for any other stand, you will not need an elevator pass. Just ask a steward for help in locating the elevators.

If you are successful in getting a match day ticket, and you wish to take family/friends with you, there are very limited (and in high demand) tickets available for this purpose. Email accessibility@manutd.co.uk or call +44 (0)161 868 8001. They will assist you in getting tickets for your friends/family. Please note that these family/friends will need to have United Membership too (see Membership).

In the South East corner there is an Ability Suite open to those with accessible tickets. This area has lowered kiosks, accessible toilets, television screens and you are able to recharge wheelchairs/scooters or ventilators. It’s open before, during and after the match. Please note in each area where accessible tickets are sold there are accessible catering options so you won’t go hungry/thirsty.

There are two changing places available inside Old Trafford. One is located in the East Stand concourse area behind the Wheelchair area. The other is located in the Stretford End behind the wheelchair area. You will need a RADAR key to gain entry (ask a steward for one of these).

For those who need to bring an assistance dog with you, please let the accessibility team beforehand (at least 24 hours) by emailing: accessibility@manutd.co.uk. You also need to email the accessibility team 24 hours beforehand if you require an audio commentary headset. The audio headsets will be available for collection from the AE1 entrance on match days. This is located in the South East Corner.

If you require parking, you can book both Blue Badge (a UK scheme allowing eligible people to park in many places if they display their Blue Badge) and general admission parking. As an overseas visitor you won’t have a Blue Badge, so we recommend that you email: accessibility@manutd.co.uk for help with this. In parking lot N3 (behind the Stretford End stand), there is a mobility buggy for your use. This gives those with mobility issues assistance in getting from the parking lot to the stadium. It runs 3 times before matches and once after the match has finished. Ask a steward for times.

Hospitality Accessibility

You can purchase with confidence any hospitality ticket as all have tickets available with accessible seating. Unfortunately all carers and Personal Assistants (PA) will need to purchase a ticket too. There are elevators for all match day hospitality areas, and you can bring in crutches and walking aids with you. If you need a mobility scooter/wheelchair or if you are visually impaired and you need radio commentary, you need to make the sales team aware at the time of booking., you should also Email: matchday.hospitality@manutd.co.uk.
